Ah! Kosmos Beautiful Swamp

Ah! Kosmos Beautiful Swamp ENGLISH CONTENT

Başak Günak aka Ah! Kosmos has risen from Bastards (2015) to Beautiful Swap (2018). The process is bluntly beautiful and wide open. It’s always a stressful process to produce the second offspring. And change is always stressful but to my bewilderment Beautiful Swap feels like a revolution in an algorithmic appreciation. There is no debate here we are listening to the upgraded soundscapes of a sound engineer who is in a progress of evolution. Her effluxion is a merger of biotech and InfoTech where the canvas used to display the multi-layered parallelism of sound is wide. An open space of rhythmic, indulging herself into the capturing sound of avant-garde and bloomy post-rock with sprinkles of technological oscillations. Everything seems to be in the right place, nothing is overlapping or overflowing; all seems to be intact but yet a feeling of endless spacious contentment is dominant.

You feel free but also sense the control of a mastermind behind closed curtains. Where she gloomily puppets her melodic magic all over the swamp giving you perfect intervals to inhale and exhale. You are in her world created polyphonic rhythmic folktronica, where one moment you can move into Istanbul and get off in Berlin. Ten woven organic musical structures stand as individual intellectuals in a charismatic ecliptic sound orbit. There is a challenge for the listener and herself in these undiscovered hangouts dawns, woods, Junes, rains and mountains. Labelled by  Compost Records, Beautiful Swamp is more of an inner journey for Günak, a self-discovery in a maze of feelings.

The awkward moment for me was I immediately connected with the musical layout of the album, I usually don’t. From the greeting mysterious Wood into the hugging June, passing through the dripping melody of It Rains Without You and then the mesmerising You Can’t Fall Off A Mountain marching into your system gives you the creeps in a good way. I understand why she has named this organism as Beautiful Swap, at certain stages you feel like sinking and when you are about to give up, she allows you to take the next step. It’s her world and her aura where she is willing to be flexible and embracing. My standouts are the triple chainrings of Dawn, Paradise and Beyond Dreams, they are basically craving for repetition in an endless loop. And the drumming closure of Heart Knows This beats with a soul craving for more.

Ah! Kosmos has inspired and manipulated human emotions into well thought algorithmic tone structure. She has absolutely done a good morph job where settled protocols and manuals have been rewritten. There is a very personal touch which can be perceived as sincere melodies that only you alone can appreciate. She has shackled the antediluvian in us.

It’s an album to take to your heart…
