Yeni bir dünyaya taptaze bir müzikal bakış açısı getirerek dünya çapında bir müzik adamı haline gelen Gilles Peterson, Afrika tınılarını, reggae ve Detroit’in kentli soul müziğini yeni nesil Avrupa cazıyla harmanlayarak müziğe kültürler ve sınırlar ötesi bir bakış getirdi.
Dünyanın en prestijli radyosu BBC Radio 1’ daki çalışmalarının ardından caz, funk, reggae, soul and erken electro’nun yankılandığı kendi radyosunu kurdu. Nu-jazz kompilasyonlarının incisi “Jazz Juice” serisinin ilki 1985 yılında EMI tarafından yayınlandı.
90’ların başında patlayan Acid-jazz türü ilk olarak Peterson’un bir radyo programında tellafuz edildi. Hemen ardından “Talkin’ Loud” plak şirketini kuran Peterson, türün öncüleri Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai, the Galliano’nun ilk albümlerini yayınladı. Bugüne kadar 50’ye yakın remiks CD yayınlayan ve Radio One, Kiss FM, BBC 1, Jazz FM gibi sayısız radyoda sesini duyuran Gilles Peterson 2006’da Jazzanova ile çıkardığı “The Kings of Jazz” albümü ve 2007’de çıkardığı Brownswood Bubblers Two ile çalışmalarına devam etti.
